Produced by Graham Young, Video 125’s long accredited graphic designer and broadcast technician, the DVD was filmed in the workshops of Jordan’s Boats of Kirkcaldy Scotland. Alec Jordan takes you through the stages of building your very own boat from the choice of the design through reading plans, lofting the plywood parts, using epoxy resin and stitching and then taping the hull. As you would expect from Graham, Copious graphics are used to illustrate and clarify many of the processes you will encounter when building a Stitch & Tape vessel.

The DVD includes interviews with real-life home boat builders, who pass on their tips and suggestions for success in building your boat. The second volume, due for release later in 2008, will cover fitting out the hull, making spars, laminating, and then finishing the boat.

Peter Middleton comments: If you have ever fancied the challenge of building your own boat, then it strikes me that this is the route to take. I have seen Graham’s very own boat taking shape in his garage near Newbury. It is an excellent job and means that this DVD has been made by someone who actually has experienced the process himself. That said, don’t expect to be sailing in it this summer. It will take many months of dedication but if you really think you are up for it, then this DVD is a good place to start….
